In the winter of 2021, the life of 25-year-old Bradley Vaughan Shake, a male from Darlington, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. On Sunday, January 10th, an act of violence unfolded on Forest Drive, just north of the city limits. In an incident that also left another individual wounded, Shake was fatally shot.
The Darlington County Sheriff's Office was quick to investigate what they believed to be a murder-suicide.
It was determined that the person who shot Shake had then turned the weapon on himself. The suspect, who was known to Shake, did not die immediately and was transported to a local hospital. His critical condition, requiring the use of a ventilator, initially prevented law enforcement from conducting an interview.
The community was left to mourn the loss of a young man remembered by friends and family. A graveside memorial service was held a week later at Grove Hill Cemetery to honor his memory. The investigation into the violent encounter that claimed Bradley Shake's life continued as authorities awaited the opportunity to speak with the hospitalized suspect to piece together the events of that fatal day.
