On the cold morning of January 3, 2026, the city of Chicago registered its first homicide of the new year, a grim milestone marked by the death of 51-year-old Marcos Aleida. A resident of the South Shore neighborhood, Aleida was discovered lifeless inside his apartment, the victim of multiple gunshot wounds.
