An argument over a social media slight tragically escalated into deadly violence, claiming the life of 18-year-old Kassidy Jackson in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Jackson, a young mother and talented hairstylist, was fatally shot in her home on Columbus Dunn Drive on the afternoon of January 8, 2026. Friends and family described her as a sweet and intelligent person with a playful spirit who was devoted to her young son.
The incident began when 19-year-old Paulasia Banks, with whom Jackson
had reportedly been in a relationship, became upset after discovering Jackson had blocked her on TikTok. Banks, accompanied by two men, went to Jackson's residence to confront her. Upon Jackson answering the door, Banks and her companions allegedly forced their way inside. An argument erupted, during which Banks questioned Jackson about the social media block and why she had not been in contact.
The confrontation quickly turned violent. A physical altercation reportedly broke out between Banks and another woman who was at the home with Jackson. This woman, identified as Jackson's girlfriend, left the room to check on a child in another part of the house. Moments later, she heard a gunshot and returned to find Jackson on the floor with a gunshot wound. Banks and the two men fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim. Emergency services were called, and Jackson was rushed to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Later that day, Paulasia Banks turned herself in to the Baton Rouge Police Department. In her statement to investigators, Banks claimed that Jackson had pushed her out of the house and that she then fired a shot through the door, unintentionally hitting Jackson. Banks was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated burglary. The investigation into the roles of the two men who accompanied Banks is ongoing.
