On the morning of Saturday, January 10, 2026, police were called to a home on Kirkbride Street for a report of a shooting. Inside, they found young Kruz with a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition and immediately underwent surgery. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Kruz succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
According to the investigation, Kruz and his 9-year-old brother were playing in the basement of their home when they came across a firearm. While the two boys were handling the gun, it discharged, striking Kruz. The 9-year-old brother reportedly told police that the gun was in his possession at the time of the incident. At the time of the shooting, no adults were present in the house, though a 16-year-old was also in the home. An adult who resides in the home had recently left for work.
Following the incident, both the 9-year-old and the 16-year-old were taken into custody for questioning by police.
