In the early afternoon of Saturday, January 10, 2026, a shooting in Baton Rouge claimed the life of 16-year-old Javen Grisby. The incident occurred around 1:10 p.m. near the intersection of West Brookstown Drive and Heidel Avenue. When officers from the Baton Rouge Police Department arrived at the scene in the 5800 block of Heidel Avenue, they found Grisby suffering from a gunshot wound.
Grisby was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
A second victim, a 17-year-old, was also injured in the shooting but sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Tragically, after fighting for his life for three days, Javen Grisby succumbed to his injuries on the morning of Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
The Baton Rouge Police Department's Homicide Division is actively investigating the fatal shooting. At this time, no arrests have been made, and officials have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to search for the person or persons responsible for Grisby's death.
