On the evening of February 16, 2025, a tragedy
unfolded on Interstate 110 North. First responders were dispatched to what initially appeared to be a routine traffic accident near the Wyandotte Street exit. Upon arrival, they discovered a two-vehicle crash and found Kimble Evans inside one of the cars. The investigation took a sudden turn when it was determined that Evans had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
As the Baton Rouge Police Department and the East Baton Rouge Coroner's Office delved into the circumstances surrounding the incident, a clearer picture began to emerge. Investigators learned that Evans had been driving at a high rate of speed and weaving through traffic just before he collided with another vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was injured and required hospitalization. Inside Evans's car, authorities found a firearm in his lap. The evidence suggested that the gun discharged upon the impact of the crash and the deployment of the airbag.
Further examination revealed no evidence of a bullet entering the vehicle from an outside source, leading investigators to a grim conclusion. The authorities have ruled out homicide in the case.
