A promising life was cut short on the evening of Sunday, January 11, 2026, when Andre Bell, a 20-year-old male student at Fisk University, was fatally shot in Nashville, Tennessee. Bell was a cherished member of the university community, known for his talent on the basketball court and his engaging personality. He was a business administration major and a forward for the Fisk Bulldogs.
On that Sunday evening, Bell and two friends were returning to the university campus after attending a
gymnastics event at the Nashville Fairgrounds. As they traveled north on Interstate 65 in Bell's white Nissan Sentra, a dark-colored sedan pulled up alongside them. Moments later, multiple gunshots were fired from the sedan, striking Bell. His friends, who were in the car with him, were reportedly distracted by their phones when the shooting occurred.
After Bell was shot, his car slowed and spun back into traffic, where it collided with a red pickup truck. The dark sedan from which the shots were fired did not stop and continued down the interstate. Bell sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the shooting. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made, and the police have not publicly identified any suspects. The motive for this tragic shooting remains undetermined. Investigators have noted that shattered glass at the scene suggests the suspect's vehicle may have sustained windshield damage. A reward of up to $10,000, combining contributions from Nashville Crime Stoppers and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, has been offered for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual or individuals responsible for Andre Bell's death. Authorities have urged anyone with information, including any drivers with dashcam footage from the area at the time of the shooting, to come forward.
