In the quiet community near Hardyville, Kentucky, the life of 83-year-old Doris June Huffman came to a tragic end on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. A female, she was discovered deceased inside her residence on Shady Grove Wickerville Road in Metcalfe County, the victim of an apparent gunshot wound. Her death marked a grim day for the small, rural area.
Responding to a call regarding a shooting incident, Kentucky State Police troopers and detectives arrived at the home to a somber scene.
Inside, they found Mrs. Huffman, who was pronounced dead at the residence by the Metcalfe County Coroner. The initial investigation pointed towards a deeply personal tragedy, as also present in the home was her 87-year-old husband, Vander Huffman.
Mr. Huffman was found with a life-threatening, apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to T.J. Samson Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries later that same afternoon, and was pronounced deceased by the Barren County Coroner.
