In the early morning hours of November 28, 2025, a violent tragedy unfolded in Davenport, Iowa, claiming the life of Dane E. Howard, a 23-year-old male. Officers from the Davenport Police Department responded to reports of shots fired at approximately 1:45 a.m. in the parking lot of the Chill Vibez Lounge located in the 100 block of Myrtle Street. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered a chaotic scene where multiple firearms had been discharged.
Dane Howard was one of two fatalities resulting from the incident; the second victim was identified as his father, 44-year-old Damien T. Howard Sr.
Investigators determined that the shooting occurred when suspects deliberately fired pistols into a group of people in the parking lot. One of the victims was found at the scene suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital, where he subsequently died. The second victim was transported by a private vehicle to a hospital but also succumbed to his injuries. A third individual sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound during the melee and received medical treatment. The double homicide prompted an immediate and intensive investigation by local authorities to identify those responsible for the violence on Thanksgiving night.
Within twenty-four hours of the shooting, Davenport police announced significant breaks in the case. Two suspects, identified as 21-year-old Raymond L. Robinson Jr. and 36-year-old Danny W. Howard Jr., were taken into custody. Both men were charged with two counts of first-degree murder, a Class A felony, as well as four counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon and one count of going armed with intent. Authorities alleged that the pair intentionally fired in the direction of at least four people, resulting in the deaths of Dane and Damien Howard. They were booked into the Scott County Jail, with bonds set at $500,000 cash-only.
Further inquiries led to a third arrest weeks later. On December 9, 2025, police arrested 27-year-old Drake Howard Sr. in connection with the deadly event. He was charged with accessory after the fact, with allegations stating he was present with one of the suspects when the shots were fired and assisted them by fleeing the scene in a vehicle together. As the legal proceedings moved forward, arraignments were scheduled for early January 2026, while the community mourned the loss of Dane, who was remembered as a dedicated youth basketball coach for the "Young Lady D's" program and a mentor who had recently earned his coaching license.
