In the early morning hours of Saturday, November 29, 2025, a violent incident unfolded at Scooter's Bar located at 1114 East Voorhees Street in Danville, Illinois. At approximately 1:26 a.m., officers from the Danville Police Department were dispatched to the establishment following reports of shots fired. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered 30-year-old Tevin J. Patton, a male resident of Joplin, Missouri, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the location, but Patton was pronounced dead at the scene. Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden subsequently identified the victim and confirmed that an autopsy would be scheduled to further investigate the cause of death.
The investigation quickly yielded leads when, at approximately 1:34 a.m., police received notification that another individual had arrived at the OSF Emergency Room with a gunshot injury. This man, identified as 30-year-old Trevon M. Lake of Danville, was treated for a non-life-threatening wound. Following his discharge from the hospital, Lake was taken to the Public Safety Building and booked. Working in collaboration with the Vermilion County State's Attorney's Office, authorities charged Lake with first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection with the shooting that claimed Patton's life.
Law enforcement continued to pursue additional suspects involved in the homicide. On the afternoon of Monday, December 8, 2025, officers with the Danville Police Problem Oriented Policing Unit observed a man they recognized as 30-year-old Jontell J. Robinson of Chicago. Robinson was wanted on an outstanding warrant for first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon regarding the November 29 incident. When Robinson noticed the officers, he attempted to flee the area on foot. Police pursued him and apprehended him approximately five minutes later after he attempted to conceal himself in a nearby tree line, taking him into custody without further incident.
