On the evening of Friday, December 5, 2025, a violent incident occurred within a residential building in the NoMa neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C. At approximately 8:08 p.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District were dispatched to the 300 block of Morse Street NE following reports of gunfire inside an apartment complex near Union Market.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered an unconscious 20-year-old male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel at the scene, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Authorities subsequently identified the deceased as Roy Lee Bennett Jr., a resident of the area. The police investigation determined that the shooting took place inside one of the apartment units, prompting a search for those responsible.
Witnesses in the area reported seeing a group of four to five individuals fleeing the building shortly after the shots rang out. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made, and detectives are working to identify the suspects involved. The Metropolitan Police Department has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the homicide.
