On the night of Sunday, December 7, 2025, a violent incident unfolded at a convenience store in Kansas City, Missouri, that ultimately claimed the life of a local resident. Officers from the Kansas City Police Department were dispatched just before midnight to the Express Stop 5, a Phillips 66 gas station located in the 2900 block of Van Brunt Boulevard, following reports of gunfire.
Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement found evidence that a shooting had occurred, but they were unable to locate a victim at the immediate premises.
Shortly after the police began their investigation at the gas station, authorities received a notification from a local hospital. A private vehicle had arrived at the emergency room carrying a patient suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Investigators and crime scene personnel were able to link this individual to the shooting scene on Van Brunt Boulevard. Despite the efforts of medical staff to save him, the wounded man, identified as 23-year-old Michael G. Weintraub, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 2:00 a.m. the following morning. He was described in reports as a Black male who was a devoted father to two young children.
Homicide detectives assumed control of the investigation, working to piece together the events that led to the shooting. In the immediate aftermath, police did not release any information regarding potential suspects, and no arrests were reported in connection with the case.
