On December 9, 2025, police responded to a shooting at the Waters at Berryhill apartment complex located at 18 Berryhill Road in Columbia, South Carolina. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department discovered 30-year-old Kendall Lemont McTeer deceased inside one of the units. McTeer, a male resident of Columbia, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lexington County Coroner.
The initial
investigation revealed that the resident of the apartment had called law enforcement to report that they had shot an intruder. When deputies entered the residence, they found McTeer lying on the floor wearing a neck gaiter that covered most of his face. While processing the scene, investigators uncovered a significant quantity of cocaine and marijuana within the apartment.
Following the discovery of the narcotics, the sole resident of the apartment was arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. As of the last available reports, no charges had been filed specifically regarding McTeer's death, as the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting continued. The resident was subsequently released on bond while the case remained under review by the sheriff's department and the coroner's office.
McTeer was known in the community for his work as a kitchen manager at Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles and was described as a devoted father to six children. Family and friends later gathered to mourn his loss, remembering him for his culinary skills and his passion for bringing people together. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina to further document the cause of death.
