On the evening of December 16, 2025, the North Charleston community was shaken by a tragic shooting on Van Buren Avenue that claimed the life of a 4-year-old boy named Merci Watson. The child was reportedly inside or near a white Nissan around 6:45 p.m. when gunfire erupted. Authorities believe he was not the intended target but was struck by a stray bullet during the violent incident.
