On the afternoon of December 20, 2025, a violent domestic incident unfolded in Monett, Missouri, resulting in the death of 30-year-old female Hannah Lee Blizard. Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the Fairway Apartments located on the 300 block of Fairway Avenue after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders discovered Blizard lying unresponsive in the parking lot next to a silver Nissan sedan.
She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Barry County Coroner.
The investigation determined that Blizard and her partner, Alan Michael Mellow, had been engaged in a heated argument inside the vehicle while their three-month-old son was in the back seat. According to official reports and court documents, the dispute arose over financial matters, specifically Mellow's accusations that Blizard had stolen coins from his collection to purchase alcohol. Mellow told investigators he believed Blizard intended to leave with their child. During the confrontation, Mellow allegedly drew a handgun and fired several shots at Blizard at close range.
Following the shooting, witnesses observed the suspect removing the infant from the vehicle and retreating into their shared apartment, where he barricaded himself. A standoff ensued, drawing a heavy police presence that included the Monett Police Department, Barry County Sheriff’s Office, and a Missouri State Highway Patrol SWAT team. Crisis negotiators established communication with Mellow, and after approximately one hour, he surrendered to authorities without further violence. The infant was recovered from the residence and transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
Alan Michael Mellow, 33, was taken into custody and booked into the Barry County Jail, where he was held without bond. Prosecutors charged him with first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and first-degree child endangerment. During police interviews, Mellow reportedly admitted to his role in the shooting. Funeral arrangements for Blizard were scheduled for early January 2026, with her family requesting that memorial contributions be directed toward domestic violence prevention organizations.
