On the early morning of Sunday, December 21, 2025, a violent tragedy occurred in Denham Springs, Louisiana, resulting in the death of 22-year-old male Tyree Lionel Worthy. Deputies from the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Longwood Drive around 3:00 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders discovered Worthy lying in the middle of the roadway suffering from critical gunshot wounds.
He was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. Investigators learned that Worthy, a resident of Baton Rouge, had been attending a party at a residence near where he was found.
Authorities quickly identified 26-year-old Kylin Jamar Sexton of Hammond as the suspect in the homicide. According to the investigation, Sexton had traveled to the gathering in a vehicle with other individuals but chose to remain outside while the others went into the party. At some point during the event, Worthy exited the home and engaged in an interaction with Sexton that escalated into an argument. Detectives allege that Sexton produced a weapon and shot Worthy before fleeing the scene in the 2019 Chevrolet Impala he had arrived in, taking the vehicle without the owner's permission. Law enforcement noted that Sexton was on both state and federal probation for previous weapons and drug charges at the time of the shooting.
A multi-agency manhunt ensued, leading to the recovery of the stolen vehicle in Tangipahoa Parish later that Sunday afternoon. Sexton was subsequently located and taken into custody on Monday evening through the combined efforts of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Hammond Police Department, and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on charges of second-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and theft of a motor vehicle. The loss devastated Worthy's family, particularly his mother, Kawannia Flood, who was already grieving the death of her oldest son from a heart attack earlier in the year. Tyree Worthy left behind two young daughters.
