In what should have been the safety of her own home in Gary, Indiana, the life of 26-year-old Arrianna Miles was cut short on November 17, 2025. A domestic dispute that day escalated to a tragic conclusion, leaving a child without a mother and a family grieving a profound loss.
The incident unfolded in the 2400 block of Pennsylvania Street, where Miles resided with her partner, Charles LeFlore Franklin, also 26, and their shared child.
An argument, reportedly stemming from Miles's desire for Franklin to move out and accusations of his infidelity, turned violent. Franklin later claimed to police that during the course of their physical altercation, a sawed-off shotgun they kept in the residence discharged.
However, the evidence at the scene and the words of Miles herself in her final moments painted a different picture for investigators. Before succumbing to a close-range gunshot wound to her abdomen, Miles pleaded with responding officers, 'Please get him away from me.' A 911 call captured her asking, 'Why would you do that?' before she fell silent. An autopsy later revealed the gunshot was fired in a downward trajectory, casting further doubt on Franklin's version of events.
Within 48 hours of the shooting, Charles LeFlore Franklin was charged in connection with Arrianna Miles's death. The charges against him are extensive, including Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, Domestic Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, and Intimidation. His prior conviction for robbery in Cook County, Illinois, legally prohibited him from possessing any firearms. If convicted on all counts, Franklin faces the possibility of more than 85 years in prison. The case now moves through the court system, while a community is left to mourn the loss of a young mother.
