A senior at West Charlotte High School, Amari was a vibrant and ambitious young woman. She was not only an honor roll student with plans to graduate early but also a budding entrepreneur with her own hairstyling business.
Her world revolved around her two-year-old daughter, for whom she was building a bright future. Friends and family remember her as a bright, bubbly young lady with a beautiful smile who was full of life and positivity.
The festive atmosphere of the party took a tragic turn just after midnight. A fight erupted among some of the partygoers, and suddenly, the sound of gunshots pierced the night. Panic ensued as people scrambled for safety. In the chaos, Amari was struck by a stray bullet. Her younger sister was with her and tended to her in the immediate aftermath. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 12:26 a.m., where they found Amari with a life-threatening gunshot wound.
Paramedics rushed her to a nearby hospital, but her injuries were too severe. Amari Cooper was pronounced deceased, her promising life cut tragically short. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately launched an investigation into her death. Detectives and crime scene investigators processed the scene, collecting evidence and appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the person or persons responsible for the gunfire. As of now, the investigation is active and ongoing, but no arrests have been announced, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the shooting.
