Brittany White, a 24-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on January 11, 2018, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Brittany was a mother of three children and was in a relationship with Jonathan Bennett, who was the father of one of her children. On that fateful day, Brittany was shot and killed by Bennett, who then kidnapped their three-month-old child and ambushed police officers at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Headquarters.
Brittany had taken multiple
steps to protect herself and her children from Bennett, including filing several restraining orders and reporting him to the police multiple times. Despite her efforts, Bennett remained free and ultimately took her life. After killing Brittany, Bennett fled with their infant child and later ambushed officers at the CMPD Headquarters. During the ambush, Bennett was killed by officers who returned fire.
