In the late hours of a Saturday night in Germantown, Maryland, the sound of gunshots shattered the evening calm in Germantown Square Urban Park. A Montgomery County Police officer on patrol near Germantown Road and Middlebrook Road heard the shots at approximately 11:08 p.m. on November 8, 2025. Responding to the scene, law enforcement discovered 34-year-old Kendall Butler of Germantown suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of the officers and Fire and Rescue personnel who arrived, Kendall Butler, a male, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide led police to three men who were observed leaving the park shortly after the gunshots were heard. All three individuals were quickly apprehended without incident. Upon their arrest, two of the men, 39-year-old Michael Aaron Lynn of Germantown and 61-year-old Kent Williams Jr., who has no fixed address, were found to be in possession of handguns. The three men were taken to the 5th District Station for questioning.
Following the investigation, Michael Aaron Lynn was charged with first-degree murder and other firearms-related offenses. Kent Williams Jr. was charged with several firearms-related offenses. Both Lynn and Williams Jr. are being held without bond. The third man, a 27-year-old, was released after questioning and was not publicly identified. The case against Michael Aaron Lynn and Kent Williams Jr. is proceeding through the legal system.
