In the quiet town of Fort Payne, Alabama, the life of 24-year-old Logan Cordale Brown, a White male, was tragically cut short on the evening of Sunday, November 9, 2025. What began as a seemingly ordinary evening ended in a violent double homicide that also claimed the life of his 27-year-old wife, Alisha Nichole Keller. The couple had only been married for three months, a whirlwind romance that had started just two weeks before they decided to elope.
Brown, who worked as a sales associate at Dunham Sports and had attended Valley Head High School, was described by his family as a spirited young man who was always willing to help others.
The fatal incident unfolded at the Fort Payne Housing Authority Complex in the 1300 block of Alabama Avenue NW. Around 5:59 p.m., a call reporting shots fired brought officers to the scene. Inside an apartment, they discovered Brown and Keller in the kitchen area with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate aid rendered by the officers and the efforts of medical personnel who arrived shortly after, both Brown and Keller were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation quickly identified a suspect: 27-year-old Jacob Eugene Mitchum of Oxford, Alabama, who was Alisha Keller's ex-boyfriend and the father of her two children. Information provided to law enforcement indicated that Mitchum was on his way back to Oxford following the shooting. A coordinated effort between the Fort Payne Police Department, the Oxford Police Department, the East Metro Area Crime Center and the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office led to Mitchum's swift apprehension. He was located in Hobson City, and as deputies entered the parking lot where his vehicle was spotted, Mitchum attempted to drive away but was quickly stopped and surrendered without further incident.
Following his arrest, Mitchum was transported back to the Fort Payne Police Department for questioning before being taken before a judge for an initial appearance on capital murder charges. He was denied bond and was to be transferred to the DeKalb County Detention Center. Fort Payne Police Chief David Davis clarified that no children were present at the residence when the incident occurred and that his department had not been aware of any prior threats, as the situation had originated in another county. Brown's family revealed that Keller had allegedly been threatened by Mitchum earlier on the day of the killings. A joint funeral was planned for Logan Brown and Alisha Keller as their families mourned the sudden and tragic loss.
