On a December evening in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of 20-year-old Cornelius Arthour May Jr., a Black/African American male, was cut short by gunfire. The incident unfolded on December 2, 2022, near a Chevron gas station on Finley Boulevard. Around 8:00 PM, the sound of a shootout between multiple people pierced the night, prompting police to be dispatched to the scene.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a tree.
Inside, they found Cornelius Arthour May Jr. and an adult female, both of whom had been shot. A third victim, an adult male, was also found nearby with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel arrived and pronounced May deceased at the scene, while the other two victims were transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Investigators believe the shootout, which took place in the 1600 block of Finley Boulevard, was a targeted attack. Despite the ongoing investigation by the Birmingham Police Department, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Cornelius Arthour May Jr. Authorities have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to the identification and apprehension of those responsible for the fatal shooting.
