In what should have been a peaceful neighborhood in Port Saint Lucie, Florida, a long-simmering dispute between neighbors erupted into a tragic act of violence on November 10, 2025, claiming the life of 54-year-old Mark Douglas Golden. The fatal encounter was the culmination of more than a year of escalating tensions with his neighbor, 62-year-old Paul Maraio.
On that Monday, Maraio shot and killed both Golden and another neighbor, 75-year-old David Walter Gasik. Following the shootings, Maraio took a woman hostage before ultimately taking his own life. The double homicide and subsequent suicide marked a violent end to a conflict that had reportedly been escalating for some time.
The dispute between Golden and Maraio had been documented, with police having been called to the neighborhood on previous occasions regarding the suspect’s behavior. The nature of their disagreements is not entirely clear, but the fatal outcome has left the community in mourning for the two men whose lives were cut short.
There will be no arrests in this case as the suspect, Paul Maraio, is deceased. The investigation has confirmed that Maraio was the perpetrator of the double homicide before he died by suicide.
