Jonathan Paul Cox, 41, male, was found mortally wounded after a 911 call brought Beaufort County deputies to a residence on Cherry Road in Washington, North Carolina, on October 11, 2025. Officials said multiple people were inside when deputies arrived and identified the victim as Jonathan Cox, who died from his injuries. An obituary later noted that he died at his home that day, aligning with the scene described by investigators.
Deputies said the shooting was domestic-related.
The suspect, 33-year-old Brian Cox of Washington and the victim’s brother, left the scene before law enforcement arrived but was arrested minutes later in the driveway of his residence on Terrapin Track Road. He was charged with one count of murder and booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center under no bond.
Public death notices published in the days that followed confirmed Jonathan’s identity and age and provided biographical details, including his full name and local ties to Washington and Chocowinity. No additional suspects were named by authorities, and the only arrest publicly reported in connection with the shooting was that of Brian Cox.
