In the quiet evening of October 11, 2025, the life of 33-year-old James Durham, a White male from Surprise, Arizona, was tragically cut short in a burst of violence. Just before 8 p.m., the sound of gunshots shattered the peace near 95th and Peoria Avenues, prompting calls to the Peoria Police Department. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered Durham lying in the street, having sustained an apparent gunshot wound.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing several individuals fleeing the area in a red sedan shortly after the gunshots were heard. This crucial piece of information allowed responding officers to quickly locate a vehicle matching the description and conduct a traffic stop. The occupants of the car were detained for questioning as the investigation into Durham's death began to unfold.
Through their investigation, detectives identified one of the vehicle's occupants, 46-year-old Henry Juarez-Garcia of Peoria, as the primary suspect in the shooting. Juarez-Garcia was arrested without incident and later booked into the Maricopa County Jail. He faces a number of serious felony charges, including first-degree murder, possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, possession of a defaced deadly weapon, and possession of dangerous drugs. Authorities have described the shooting as an isolated incident and have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
