In the early morning hours of October 18, 2025, the life of 15-year-old Chanelle Alvarez was tragically cut short in her Ogden, Utah home. A Hispanic female known for her "beautiful and feisty spirit" and "contagious laugh," Chanelle was fatally shot. Her 16-year-old boyfriend, Hezekiah Plummer, has been arrested in connection with her death and will be tried as an adult.
On the night of the incident, Plummer had arrived at the Alvarez residence around 1 a.m., telling Chanelle's mother
he had nowhere else to go. She allowed him to stay, a decision that preceded a devastating turn of events. A family member was awakened by the sound of a gunshot and, upon investigating, encountered Plummer on the stairs. Plummer allegedly claimed a robbery had occurred before fleeing the house with a firearm. Chanelle was then discovered in her bedroom with a fatal gunshot wound to the head, fired at close range.
The weapon used in the shooting was a Glock that belonged to Chanelle's mother and had been stored in her bedroom. Following the incident, the gun's case was found, but the firearm itself was missing. Plummer had a history of running away from home and had previously stayed at the Alvarez residence for extended periods.
Plummer was later apprehended in a neighboring county. At the time of his arrest, he was reportedly in possession of over $4,000 in cash and several ounces of marijuana. He now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and theft of a firearm.
In the wake of this tragedy, Chanelle's family has spoken out, attributing her death to domestic violence and expressing their hope that her story will raise awareness and help protect others from similar fates. Friends and community members remember Chanelle as a "spectacular young woman" who was "full of life" and had "so many dreams ahead of her." A pastor at a church she had attended recalled her as a caring and compassionate individual with a smile that could light up a room.
