Gina Byrd, a 62-year-old Black woman from San Antonio, was found dead on July 7, 2025, inside her Southeast Side home after relatives requested a welfare check when she and her husband didn’t show up to open their business that morning. Officers responding to the 2400 block of Christian Drive discovered both Gina and her husband, Robert Byrd, with gunshot wounds.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner later identified the couple and confirmed the time and place of the discovery, situating the tragedy in a quiet neighborhood just west of Loop 410 and south of Rigsby Avenue.
Investigators quickly focused on what they described as an apparent murder-suicide. The medical examiner ruled Gina’s death a homicide caused by at least one gunshot wound, and Robert’s death a suicide. San Antonio police said their preliminary findings supported that sequence of events, with no indication of forced entry or a third person involved. Given those determinations, there were no arrests; Robert is treated as the suspect in Gina’s killing, and the inquiry has centered on documenting the circumstances rather than seeking additional offenders.
