Alongside her was her husband, Armando Hernandez, also 46, who was a corporal with the Southwest Independent School District Police Department where he had been employed for over 15 years.
The initial discovery of a car crash soon revealed a much darker story as first responders found both individuals with gunshot wounds.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed the grim reality of the situation, ruling Elia's death a homicide and Armando's a suicide. Both had died from multiple gunshot wounds in a murder-suicide event.
