Damelvion Green was a 15-year-old Black/African American male whose life ended in gunfire on the evening of June 9, 2025, on Milwaukee’s north side. Green, a freshman at Vincent High School, was near North 45th Street and West Hampton Avenue when shots were fired shortly after 6 p.m. Milwaukee police responding to the area found Green critically wounded. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Green was not the only young person struck.
A 13-year-old was also wounded in the shooting and was taken for medical treatment. Police said the younger victim was expected to survive. Early reports did not provide a detailed account of what led to the shooting, whether Green and the other teenager had been specifically targeted, or how many shooters may have been involved. Investigators described the person or people responsible only as unknown suspect or suspects.
The killing occurred during an especially violent period along the Hampton Avenue corridor. Just three days earlier, another deadly shooting had occurred about a block away near 46th and Hampton. Green’s death became part of a cluster of shootings in the surrounding area that prompted increased concern from police and Milwaukee violence-prevention workers. Although those incidents happened close together geographically, available reporting has not established that Green’s killing was connected to the other shootings.
Beyond the circumstances of his death, Green was remembered as a teenager whose loss devastated his family. Milwaukee Public Schools records identified him as a ninth-grade student at Vincent High School. Four days after his death, relatives and friends gathered for a balloon release in his memory. Family members described the painful effort of preparing to bury a boy who was a father’s only son and a beloved nephew. An aunt organized a fundraiser to help the family cover funeral expenses after explaining that the family had received the devastating news of his shooting on June 9 and did not have life insurance for him.
Police initially reported that no arrests had been made and continued asking the public for information about who was responsible. Later reporting examining Milwaukee students lost to gun violence stated that Green’s homicide remained unsolved. Publicly available reports located for the case do not identify a suspect by name or show that anyone has subsequently been arrested, charged, tried, or convicted for killing him. The circumstances that brought the two teenagers to the location, the motive for the gunfire, and the identity of the person or people who opened fire therefore remain unanswered publicly.
Damelvion Green’s death left his family mourning a child who had only recently begun high school while investigators were left searching for whoever fired the fatal shots. What began as an ordinary Monday evening ended with one teenager dead, another wounded, and a family gathering days later not for a celebration or school milestone, but to release balloons in memory of a young life cut short.
