In the early hours of July 23, 2025, a tragedy unfolded in Milwaukee that cut short the life of 25-year-old Nakia "Nick" Thacker. A Black male, Thacker was inside his home on 84th and Fairmount at approximately 1:30 a.m. when he was awakened by someone attempting to break into his car in the parking lot.
Thacker yelled from his window for the individual to leave his vehicle. In response, a barrage of bullets was fired into his home, with one fatally striking him.
Thacker died at the scene of the shooting. His girlfriend was reportedly in the same room with him when the shots were fired through the window.
Known as a loving father to two young girls, his oldest daughter celebrated her sixth birthday just two weeks after his death. In the wake of the shooting, a memorial of candles and pictures was set up on the windowsill of the home, just below the visible bullet hole that serves as a grim reminder of the violence that occurred.
As of early September 2025, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide, and the Milwaukee Police Department's investigation remains active. Thacker's family continues to seek answers and justice for his death. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
