On a summer afternoon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 17, 2023, the life of 31-year-old John T. Schutte, a White / Caucasian male, was tragically cut short. The incident unfolded around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of South 36th Street and West National Avenue. Milwaukee police responded to calls of a shooting and discovered Schutte with fatal gunshot wounds at the scene.
He was pronounced dead shortly after.
According to accounts of the event, Schutte was seen getting into a silver, four-door car with no license plates and a sunroof. Not long after, he was found shot in the middle of the street. An unidentified tall Black male, wearing a white t-shirt and tan pants, was reportedly seen getting into the rear passenger side of the same vehicle before it fled the scene, turning onto West Pierce Street.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, a 26-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested in connection with the incident. She had arrived at a local hospital with gunshot injuries and was subsequently taken into custody. While an arrest was made, authorities indicated they were searching for additional suspects. The investigation into Schutte's death remains ongoing.
Information provided by Schutte's wife indicated that two individuals who were believed to be involved were arrested on the day of his murder but were later released without any criminal charges being filed against them. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office also noted a possible connection between the shooting on 36th and National and another shooting reported on the same day that resulted in the closure of the Stadium Interchange. Loved ones gathered for funeral services in Brookfield to remember a man known for his vibrant personality.
