In the early evening hours of June 11, 2025, amidst the typical rush hour bustle of downtown Seattle, a burst of gunfire shattered the ordinary. At the intersection of 3rd Avenue and James Street in the city's historic Pioneer Square, Jennifer Erin Sayers, a 43-year-old woman, was caught in the violence. She sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
Her death was later ruled a homicide by the King County Medical Examiner's Office.
The shooting, which occurred around 5:11 p.m., also left two men injured. One man suffered a gunshot wound to the foot, and another man was later discovered to have sustained a gunshot wound to his leg from the same incident. Both men were transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. The Seattle Police Department and King County Sheriff's deputies were quick to arrive at the chaotic scene.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, officers were able to apprehend a suspect at the scene. The individual was taken into custody without incident. Authorities indicated that an altercation preceded the gunfire. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deadly encounter is being led by the Seattle Police Department's Homicide Unit.
