Gisele Ann Lovvorn, a 17-year-old Caucasian female, had a background that contrasted with the circumstances of her final days. Raised in a middle-class family in California, she was a bright individual with a high IQ who had a passion for reading. However, feelings of isolation led her to run away from home starting at the age of 14. Her life eventually led her to Washington State, where she found herself in vulnerable situations.
Less than a month before her death, she was arrested for prostitution, giving a false name and age to authorities.
On July 17, 1982, Gisele left her apartment in Burien to work on the "Sea-Tac strip," a stretch of Pacific Highway South known for sex work. She was last seen that afternoon but never returned. Three days later, her roommate filed a missing person report. The search for Gisele would come to a grim end on September 25, 1982, when her remains were discovered in a wooded area near South 200th Street and 18th Avenue South, not far from the airport.
For years, Gisele's murder remained unsolved, one of a string of similar cases that haunted the Seattle area. The investigation into the deaths of numerous women, many of whom were runaways or involved in prostitution, led to the formation of the Green River Task Force. The perpetrator, who came to be known as the Green River Killer, targeted vulnerable young women. It wasn't until decades later that advancements in DNA technology would break the case open.
The suspect was identified as Gary Leon Ridgway, a truck painter who had been a suspect as early as 1983 but had passed a polygraph test. In 2001, DNA evidence definitively linked Ridgway to several of the murders. Facing the death penalty, Ridgway entered into a plea agreement in 2003, confessing to a staggering number of slayings in exchange for his life. He pleaded guilty to the murder of 48 women, including Gisele Ann Lovvorn. Ridgway was sentenced to 48 consecutive life sentences, ensuring he would never be free again.
