In the summer of 2025, the life of a young Black/African American man, 19-year-old Landis Mitchell Govan, was tragically cut short. On June 17, Govan was a passenger in a vehicle traveling on Harlan Springs Road near Martinsburg, West Virginia. An argument reportedly broke out between Govan and his girlfriend, who was also in the vehicle. Another passenger, his friend, 20-year-old Elias Michael Jenkins, allegedly took issue with what was being said during the bickering.
