On the night of August 6, 2025, Jessica Mateo Baldoz, 27, a woman of Filipino descent from Chesapeake, Virginia, placed a call for help from her Willow Bridge Court apartment. As officers rushed to reach her, they heard her cries behind a closed door; when they tried to breach it, gunfire ripped through the wood, wounding two Chesapeake police officers. Inside, officers found Jessica Mateo Baldoz, 27, with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.
