In the early morning hours of October 2, 2025, the life of Giselle Britt, a 30-year-old Black woman from Franklin, Virginia, was tragically cut short. Responding to a call shortly before 3 a.m., Franklin police officers arrived at the 1300 block of Mariner Street to find Britt suffering from gunshot wounds to her back and stomach. Emergency responders transported her to Bon Secours Southampton Medical Center, but despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
Her sister recounted that medical staff were able to resuscitate her once, but she could not be revived a second time.
The narrative of that night extended beyond Franklin. A short time after Britt was found, the Suffolk Police Department contacted Franklin authorities about a man who had appeared at Sentara Obici Hospital with gunshot wounds to his hand and leg. Investigators quickly determined that the two shootings were related, adding another layer to the ongoing investigation. As of a week after the incident, Franklin's police chief confirmed that no arrests had been made, and no suspects were in custody, leaving a killer on the streets.
