In the late hours of a November evening in Chesapeake, Virginia, the life of 21-year-old Dashay Monique Whack was tragically cut short. On November 14, 2019, officers responded to a call about an injured person in the 1700 block of Acorn Street in the West Munden area of the city. There they found Whack suffering from gunshot wounds. Medics rushed her to a local hospital, but her injuries proved to be fatal, and the young woman from Norfolk passed away.
The Chesapeake Police Department
swiftly began an investigation into the shooting that claimed Dashay Whack's life. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, and on November 22, 2019, an arrest was made. Marcell Charles Owens, a 26-year-old man, was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Following his arrest, Owens was held at the Chesapeake City Jail without bond.
