In the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 8, 2025, a fatal encounter unfolded outside a gas station in Ocoee, Tennessee, ending the life of 52-year-old Mickey Lee Goodman. The white male was discovered by first responders just after midnight, suffering from at least one gunshot wound in the parking lot of the E-Z Stop, which shares a lot with a McDonald's on U.S. 64. He was urgently transported to a hospital in Cleveland but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Detectives began processing the scene, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing security camera footage from the gas station. Their efforts quickly pointed them toward a suspect. Within a day, investigators had identified 34-year-old Jayson A. Wentworth of Ocoee as the individual allegedly responsible for Goodman's death.
Based on the evidence gathered from witness accounts and the surveillance video, authorities located Wentworth at his home in Ocoee. He was taken into custody without incident and subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting. Wentworth was booked into the Polk County Jail, where he was held on a $750,000 bond. As part of the ongoing investigation, Goodman's body was sent to Knoxville for an autopsy.
