Tito Bartolo Walton Jr., a 17-year-old Black male from Charlotte, was shot on the afternoon of May 18, 2025, along the 1200 block of Spring Street near Greenville Park. Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded around 4:20 p.m. to an assault with a deadly weapon call and found Walton suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
Police opened a homicide investigation the same day, identifying the scene and timing but initially withholding suspect information as they canvassed the area and notified family.
In the days that followed, local outlets detailed how the shooting marked a violent weekend in the city, with Walton named as one of the victims and the Spring Street location highlighted as just steps from Greenville Park and near schools and homes. Memorial notices and obituaries confirmed his identity, age, and date of death, and community reports described the suddenness of the loss.
On August 21, 2025, investigators arrested a 14-year-old in connection with Walton’s killing. Because the suspect is a juvenile, authorities did not release a name. After an interview with homicide detectives, the teen was charged with murder and transferred to the custody of the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. CMPD described the case as active and ongoing following the arrest.
