On April 23, 2025, 22-year-old male Jorden Christion Mason was fatally shot outside the 1st and Goal Sports Bar on University City Boulevard in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 2:50 a.m., and Mason was transported to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Mason, a graduate of Hopewell High School, was an aspiring rapper with music available online.
According to reports, the altercation began inside the bar over a comment Mason made about a woman, which led to a confrontation with another patron. Mason reportedly apologized, stating he did not intend any disrespect. The situation escalated, resulting in Mason being shot in the parking lot. His mother, Temekia Dae, expressed her grief and disbelief over the senselessness of the act, emphasizing the disparity in size between her son and the shooter, and questioning the necessity of such violence.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department identified 33-year-old Anthony Murry Alexander as the suspect. Alexander was arrested on April 24, 2025, without incident and charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is currently held without bond in the Mecklenburg County Jail.
