In the late summer evening of August 29, 2025, a fatal encounter unfolded in the parking lot of the Crestridge Apartments at 1010 Thompson Place in Nashville, Tennessee. The life of 25-year-old Ever Domingo Mazariegos, a male resident, was cut short by multiple gunshot wounds in what investigators believe to be a targeted attack. The events of that Friday night began with an argument between Mazariegos and another man, Emerson Depaz-Pangan.

Following the initial dispute, Depaz-Pangan, 26, drove away, only to return later with 16-year-old Juan Acoj-Tecu, who was armed with a pistol. A confrontation ensued, during which both Acoj-Tecu and Mazariegos exchanged gunfire. Mazariegos was struck multiple times. He was privately transported to General Hospital before being transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

In the course of the investigation, law enforcement officials were led to the two suspects. Acoj-Tecu had also sustained a gunshot wound to his hand during the exchange and sought treatment at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital that same night. Initially, he provided a false account to officers, claiming he had been shot on Millwood Drive near a creek.

Homicide detectives eventually pieced together the events of that evening, leading to the arrests of both Depaz-Pangan and Acoj-Tecu. Acoj-Tecu was charged as a juvenile with criminal homicide and unlawful possession of a firearm. Depaz-Pangan faced charges of facilitation of criminal homicide and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Acoj-Tecu was held in juvenile detention, while Depaz-Pangan was jailed.
