Jeffrey Allen, 58, a Black male from Goldsboro, was fatally shot on the night of June 17, 2025. Police were dispatched at approximately 10:26 p.m. to a residence on the 2300 block of Norwood Avenue, where they found Allen suffering from gunshot wounds; he was taken to UNC Health Wayne and pronounced dead.
Detectives from the Goldsboro Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division processed the scene and began canvassing the area as the investigation opened.
Early reports noted the attack occurred at a home on Norwood Avenue and that the inquiry remained active following Allen's death.
Within days, authorities announced arrests tied to the shooting. Mark Grant, 34, and Pamela Owens, 50, both of Goldsboro, were served with warrants and charged with an open count of murder, as well as discharging a firearm into an occupied property causing serious injury. They were booked into the Wayne County Jail under no bond while the investigation continued, with police indicating additional arrests were possible.
Allen's death was subsequently reflected in local memorial and obituary notices, confirming his identity and date of death and noting funeral arrangements handled by a Goldsboro funeral home. These notices underscored the swift transition from a late-night emergency call to a homicide case that drew quick investigative action and arrests in the days that followed.
