In the late afternoon of Saturday, August 9, 2025, the life of 28-year-old Davonta Mims, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Oklahoma City. The incident, which marked the city's 45th homicide of the year, unfolded at an apartment complex located in the 600 block of North Stonewall Avenue, just east of the downtown area. At approximately 4:05 p.m., police were dispatched to the scene following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Mims suffering from
multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to OU Medical Center for emergency treatment, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Investigators began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting and learned that Mims had been involved in an altercation with a woman at the apartment complex.
During the course of this dispute, a third person intervened and shot Mims. Homicide detectives have since interviewed all individuals involved in the incident. At this time, no arrests have been publicly announced. The case is set to be presented to the District Attorney's Office, which will ultimately decide whether any criminal charges will be filed in connection with Davonta Mims's death. A GoFundMe campaign was organized to help with funeral expenses and to support his young son.
