In the summer of 2025, a dispute in the Bronx tragically cut short the life of 18-year-old Rize King Ashmeade. On the evening of June 7th, at approximately 9:45 PM, a verbal altercation unfolded at 18 West Kingsbridge Road. The argument escalated, resulting in Ashmeade being shot.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene and transported the young man to St. Barnabas Hospital. While initially listed in stable condition, his injuries proved to be more severe than first understood.
After fighting for his life for over a week, Rize King Ashmeade succumbed to his wounds on Monday, June 16, 2025. His death was subsequently ruled a homicide by the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The suspect was taken into custody within the confines of the 52nd Precinct, the same precinct where the shooting occurred. He is facing serious charges, including two counts of attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. The investigation remains ongoing.
