Vance Mims III, age 17, male, went to Albany’s Empire State Plaza with family and friends to watch the Fourth of July fireworks on the night of July 4, 2025. Minutes after the show ended, gunfire erupted along Madison Avenue. Albany police say the teen was an innocent bystander caught in crossfire between two 15-year-olds—one firing a handgun and another firing a flare gun that ignited a blaze which ultimately destroyed nearby buildings, including the structure at 333 Madison Avenue.
