On a summer evening in Queens, a violent encounter cut short the life of 50-year-old Antonio Cantor. The male victim was fatally shot on Thursday, July 17, 2025, outside his own home in the College Point neighborhood. The incident unfolded around 10:30 p.m. on 119th Street near 28th Avenue, where Cantor was confronted by an assailant.
The confrontation escalated, resulting in Cantor being shot multiple times in the chest and stomach.
Emergency responders rushed him to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead. The shooter fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle immediately after the attack.
The suspect was identified as 55-year-old Jose Centeno. Sources indicate that Centeno is the estranged husband of a woman who was in a relationship with Cantor. In a surprising turn of events, about twelve hours after the shooting, Centeno turned himself into the authorities at the 109th Precinct station house.
Following his surrender, Jose Centeno was arrested and faced serious charges. He was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. After his arraignment in Queens Criminal Court, Centeno was remanded into custody and is being held without bail. The investigation reportedly involved witness interviews and the recovery of video surveillance footage that allegedly shows Centeno shooting Cantor.
