On the night of August 30, 2019, Tyrell Rice, a 29-year-old resident of Queens, New York, was fatally shot in South Ozone Park. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. as Rice was walking along Rockaway Boulevard near 135th Street. According to reports, Tevin Jackson, 38, approached Rice and shot him once in the chest before fleeing the scene. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) rushed Rice to Jamaica Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
