On July 1, 2025, the life of 28-year-old Brandon Haywood Sr. was tragically cut short in Saint Louis, Missouri, due to what his loved ones have described as senseless gun violence. A father of three and a devoted partner, Brandon was remembered as a man with a kind and giving heart, full of passion and always willing to help others. His infectious smile was said to light up any room, bringing joy to those fortunate enough to have known him.

The fatal incident occurred outside an apartment complex in Ferguson, where an argument reportedly took place. Two men, 26-year-old Daron Wilson and 29-year-old Damon Hampton, were later charged in connection with the shooting. According to authorities, the dispute was between Haywood and Wilson, the ex-boyfriend of the woman Haywood was currently dating.

After an initial confrontation was seemingly de-escalated and Haywood had gone inside an apartment, he was allegedly shot upon coming back outside. It is reported that Hampton opened fire first, and as Haywood stumbled, Wilson also began shooting. Brandon Haywood sustained nine gunshot wounds. Police recovered 14 shell casings from the scene of the crime. Ammunition matching these casings was later discovered in a vehicle belonging to Wilson's new girlfriend.

In the wake of the shooting, both Daron Wilson and Damon Hampton were charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. The investigation into Haywood's death was reportedly aided by text messages sent by Wilson to his ex-girlfriend regarding her relationship with Haywood. This, combined with the evidence found at the scene, led to the charges being filed against the two suspects. A fundraising campaign was initiated online to assist his family with funeral costs and to offer some financial support for his children.
