On a Saturday afternoon, the life of 28-year-old Darrell Sanders of Newark, a male, was cut short in a fatal shooting in Linden, New Jersey. The incident occurred around 3:26 p.m. on September 27th in the 3100 block of Irene Street. Responding to reports of gunfire, Linden police officers discovered Sanders at the scene suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injury proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the death of Darrell Sanders was a collaborative effort involving the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force, the Linden Police Department, and the Union County Sheriff's Department. Their joint investigation led them to identify 23-year-old Yamir Saffold-Davis, a Linden resident, as the suspect in the shooting.
This breakthrough in the case came after a thorough investigation by the combined law enforcement agencies who were actively seeking information from the public.
On Tuesday, October 7th, Yamir Saffold-Davis was taken into custody in Elizabeth, New Jersey, by the U.S. Marshals Service. He is now facing several serious charges, including first-degree murder for the death of Darrell Sanders. In addition to the murder charge, Saffold-Davis has been charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree aggravated assault. Following his arrest, he was being held in the Essex County Jail as the investigation into the homicide continued.
