In the early morning hours of June 5, 2020, the life of 22-year-old Nadir Williams, a Black/African American male from Linden, New Jersey, was tragically cut short. Shortly after midnight, police responded to reports of a shooting on the 400 block of Bower Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Williams suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported Williams to University Hospital in Newark in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead shortly after 2:30 a.m. The violent end to a young life sent ripples of grief and concern through the Linden community.
In the wake of the shooting, the Union County Prosecutor's Office, along with the Linden Police Department and the Union County Homicide Task Force, launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Williams's death.
Authorities have been actively seeking information from the public to help piece together the events of that fatal morning. To encourage potential witnesses to come forward, the Union County Crime Stoppers have offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual or individuals responsible for this heinous act. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified, leaving a community to mourn and await justice for a life taken too soon. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues to search for answers and bring closure to the family and friends of Nadir Williams.
